Privacy Policy
BlurIt ("the App") is developed and operated by Quentin Dommerc ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our mobile application available on iOS and Android.
The short version: Your photos never leave your device. We don't collect personal data. We don't track you.
1. Image Processing — 100% On-Device
All image processing in BlurIt happens entirely on your device. This includes:
- Face detection (using Apple Vision framework on iOS, ML Kit on Android)
- Text recognition (using Apple Vision framework on iOS, ML Kit on Android)
- Blur rendering and image export
No photos, images, or image data are ever uploaded, transmitted, or sent to any server. The App works fully offline. Machine learning models run locally on your device.
To be completely clear:
- Your photos never leave your device. Images you select for editing are read from your local photo library, processed in memory on your device, and saved back to your photo library. At no point is any image data transmitted over the network.
- No face data is collected or stored. Face detection is performed on-device by the operating system's built-in machine learning frameworks (Apple Vision / Google ML Kit). Detected face coordinates exist only temporarily in memory during your editing session and are discarded when you close the editor. We never extract, store, or transmit facial features, face embeddings, or any biometric identifiers.
- No text data is collected or stored. Text recognition (OCR) runs on-device in the same way. Recognized text regions are used solely to position blur overlays during your editing session and are discarded immediately afterward. We never read, record, or transmit the content of any detected text.
- No biometric data is collected. BlurIt does not create, store, or transmit biometric identifiers or biometric information as defined under BIPA, GDPR, or any other privacy regulation. The face detection feature identifies face locations (bounding boxes) for blurring purposes only — it does not perform facial recognition, create face templates, or generate any biometric signature.
2. Data We Collect
2.1 Anonymous Analytics
We collect minimal, anonymous usage analytics to understand how the App is used and improve it. This data is sent to our self-hosted analytics service (Rybbit) and includes:
- App open events
- Feature usage counts (e.g., "blur exported", "face detection used")
- Blur style used and region count (aggregate, no image content)
This analytics data contains no personally identifiable information (PII), no device identifiers, no IP address logging, no cookies, and no advertising identifiers (IDFA/GAID).
2.2 Purchase Information
If you purchase BlurIt Pro, the transaction is processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We use RevenueCat as a purchase management service. RevenueCat receives:
- An anonymous app user ID
- Purchase receipts and entitlement status
We do not receive or store your payment details (credit card number, billing address, etc.). For details on how RevenueCat handles data, see their privacy policy.
2.3 Data We Do NOT Collect
- Photos, images, or any image content
- Face data, facial features, or face embeddings
- Detected text content from photos
- Biometric identifiers or biometric information
- Location data
- Contacts or address book
- Device identifiers or fingerprints
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA, GAID)
- Names, email addresses, or account information
- Browsing history or app usage on other apps
3. Permissions
BlurIt requests only the permissions it needs:
- Photo Library: To let you pick photos to edit and save blurred results back to your gallery.
BlurIt does not request access to your camera, microphone, location, contacts, or any other sensitive permissions.
4. Data Storage
BlurIt does not maintain user accounts. The only data stored locally on your device is:
- Your purchase/entitlement status (cached by RevenueCat SDK)
- A flag indicating whether you've completed onboarding
- Temporary image files during editing (automatically cleaned up after export)
No data is stored on our servers.
5. Third-Party Services
| Service | Purpose | Data Shared |
|---|---|---|
| RevenueCat | Purchase management | Anonymous user ID, purchase receipts |
| Rybbit (self-hosted) | Anonymous analytics | Event counts (no PII) |
We do not use any advertising SDKs, social media trackers, or user identification services.
6. Children's Privacy
BlurIt does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13 (or under the applicable age in your jurisdiction). Since we do not collect personal information from any user, no special provisions are necessary.
7. Data Transfers
Since we do not collect personal data, there are no international data transfers of personal information. Anonymous analytics pings are sent to our server infrastructure, but these contain no PII.
8. Your Rights
Under GDPR, CCPA, and similar regulations, you have rights regarding your personal data. Since BlurIt does not collect or store personal data, these rights are inherently satisfied. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
